Been a RED user for a few years now. You have to buy the Mag slot anyway separately so why can’t they provide other options like you can which just about everything else you can attach to the camera like maybe a CFAST 2.0 module to record to that? Or a 2.5” SSD if you are not going to touch the lower compression ratios. I don’t even shoot less than 13:1 anyway. The video bit rate would be fine!

So will it work if I swap out the ssd in there with my own ssd?

I am genuinely impressed by how honest you've remained all this time. Great job. So many other YT chans have clearly signed a deal with the devil. BUT YOU, you are the real deal. Thank you.

Remember those unique chinese made RAID enabled SATA cards that were made up of smaller microSD cards, you reviewed awhile back? I wonder if for redundancy sakes, someone could use a similar adapter that either allows 2 mSATA cards, or simply 2 microSD cards, in RAID 1, and jam it all into a REDX mini mag case, and have built in RAID support :)

So...moral of the story: stop buying their products until they stop ripping people off.

I really had no idea what the issue was about before, but the explanation was so well articulated and had such a balanced perspective i feel like I should want retribution for all the money on them i never spent.

I looked these up and I was like, how much is that gonna cost, $1000 max, then I looked it up and it was $2350 at B&H which is insane. A used 120gb at adorama was literally over $600. Thats insane

Red has a super scummy business model. I honestly think buying their overpriced camera was a mistake on Linus' part. A 4k camera wouldve been just as practical and quite a bit cheaper

Anything to do with cinema production is ridiculously over priced, from the body to the lenses to the accessories. It's a racket!

So, y'all are fine with spending as much on a camcorder as a fully outfitted Mercedes E Class, but then complain that the cards they sell are too expensive? lol. But I agree, they should put the best in there, meaning 2 of the best SSDs they can find in a Raid 1 Configuration. (That would actually also justify putting it all in a cool proprietary cartridge.

The size inconsistency could also be due to unit confusion: 476.8 GiB ≈ 512 GB, 480 GiB ≈ 515.4 GB, 931.3 GiB ≈ 1 TB, 960 GiB ≈ 1.031 TB

I bet it costs less than $5 to manufacture this camera and it's parts and they jack up the price to a ridiculous about. That company is committing a scam.
